The girl says 'Yes'...

This week I have been reading the Christmas Story! I love going over again the incredible events of that very first Christmas! It’s wonderful to see God, His angels and different people involved in the arrival of the greatest gift of all! An angel, called Gabriel, was sent to tell a young teenage girl, called Mary, who was engaged to a local carpenter, called Joseph, that God Himself had selected her to be the mother of his Son, Jesus! This is what he said...

Don’t be afraid, Mary; God has shown you his grace. Listen! You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of King David, his ancestor. He will rule over the people of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will never end.
— Luke 1:30-33 The NCV Bible

Mary was pretty shocked at this ‘message’ since she had never slept with a man! After a few questions to Gabriel, Mary accepted what God wanted for her and replied, “I am the servant of the Lord. Let this happen to me as you say!”  What an awesome responsibility! What a fantastic response! What a girl! Mary choose to say ‘yes’ to God and from that moment on trusted Him and His plans. This Christmas let us challenge ourselves to be like Mary. Whatever God asks of us may we have the courage and trust in God to say ‘yes’!
