A powerful change

This week I have been reading 1 Samuel. This Old Testament book records the origins of Israel appointing a King to rule over them. God spoke to Samuel (a priest and prophet) who was leading Israel at that time, and said that he would meet a man called Saul who he was to anoint as the King of Israel. When Samuel met Saul, he said that he would soon bump into a group of prophetic people and that...

The Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you.
— 1 Samuel: 6-7 The NIV Bible

What an incredible experience Saul went through! God the Holy Spirit came upon him during his encounter with this prophetic group. This resulted in him changing into someone different. God was then with Saul in all he did. I love these stories of how God came upon people for specific roles and tasks. He did not expect them to do His work on their own. This follows through the New Testament and into the church today! When somebody becomes a Christian, their life is changed, they are ‘born again’! And, God promises His Holy Spirit to all who ask to empower them to live this new changed life...
