Mr Topsy-Turvey

I am not a great reader. I have always preferred to watch something, preferably a movie, rather than read a book.

When our kids were little, they loved ‘story time’ before bed. I was very grateful for short kids’ books, that I could read, and they enjoyed!

On one occasion when I was reading, I actually fell asleep! I was woken by a sharp nudge in the ribs by a rather annoyed child saying, ‘Daddy, wake up!’

We discovered that the Mr Men and Little Miss books were perfect for bedtime reading, as they were short, funny and lots to choose from!

There was one character I thought summed up God’s Kingdom, and that was Mr Topsy-Turvey (book number 9 in the series, for those who like that kind of thing).

In his letter to the church in Corinth, Paul wrote this…

Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
— 1 Cor 1:26-27 The NIV Bible

Here, Paul, a leader in the early church, states that God’s ways are counter or ‘Topsy-Turvy’ to the world in which they lived.

Their world, like ours today, can focus on people of power, influence, position, or those with wealth, success or fame. These are the important people.

God’s perspective is very different. Of course, God loves everyone, but He does seem to have a big heart for the underdogs, the unknowns and the nobodies.

Let that encourage you today! God sees you, loves you and longs to know you and share life with you. Join me, and others in His ‘Topsy-Turvy’ Kingdom…

God bless you :)
