MOT
Recently our car had its annual MOT and service. The local mechanics check all aspects of the car, from the windscreen wiper blades to exhaust emissions.
I dropped the car off at the garage nice and early, and waited for them to call later in the day to see how it was.
Early in the afternoon, the call came. Bad news, it had failed. There were one or two problems that had caused the failure, but it was all fixable, at a price!
I gulped, and agreed to the work. Later that day I collected the car in exchange for a few hundred pounds, and was back on the road.
The MOT and service is a good thing, as at least once year every aspect is checked over, making sure the car is safe to use, and anything not right can be fixed or replaced.
This got me thinking about my life, and my walk with God. Is it a good thing to have an annual ‘Spiritual Life MOT’? King David wrote this…
“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.”
These verses reveal that God knows what we are really like ‘under the bonnet’. He sees where things are working well and what areas need some attention!
God is continually kind and gracious and never stops loving us. In my experience, there are times when I know God is highlighting a certain area that needs to change.
Alongside God’s nudges, I think there are some areas that I can check in my life. Here are 5 things to consider:
Do I spend time reading and meditating on the Bible: daily, weekly, monthly, ever?
How is my prayer life? Is it a shopping list of what I want God to do for me, or is it a two way relationship, of both talking and listening to God?
Does my life reflect more of God’s characteristics, in thought, word and deed?
Is their evidence of God’s ‘Fruit of the Spirit’ in me.
Am I growing deeper in love with God and sharing that with those around me?
God bless you :)
