Make room

Do you ever watch those television programmes where teams are sent in to declutter people’s homes? In extreme cases, room after room are floor to ceiling full of stuff, and sometimes include a dead rat or two!

The stories of how people got into these situations are varied. There are those who are hoarders and struggle to get rid of anything. Some are much sadder, people struggling with health, or unable to cope after the death of a loved one.

It’s so uplifting to see the house clearers come in, remove the junk, clean and decorate the house and replace broken worn out furniture with new items.

The transformation is amazing and the owners are delighted with the change, as they have room to enjoy life again.

I recently read this verse in the Bible that got my attention…

In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
— Psalm 10:4 The NIV Bible

It got me thinking, do I make room for God? In other words, is my life so ‘full’ that God has no space.

It may not be physical hoarding, but we can fill our lives with so many things, such as, work, family, friends or hobbies. Of course, none of these are bad on their own. It’s just when they are all added together there can be little room for anything else.

Is life so full that God has no space, or is He there, but squashed or hidden by other things?

I want to be someone who intentionally makes room for God. For me, this includes regular time to read and meditate on the Bible and prayer - talking and listening to Him.

Making room also includes giving God space to speak an act in His way and in His timing. This can be both releasing and frustrating!

Giving God room keeps me humble and dependent on Him. It opens up situations to His power, wisdom, creativity and provision.

Is there room for God in your life?

God bless you:)
